Stone keeps his run rolling on.
For the second game on the trot the Crows had to come from behind against Bearsted on Tuesday night, this time they were only 1-0 down and not 2-0 as they were when they played Sheppey United at home on Saturday.
Attwood was back in the side following his stomach bug on Saturday and Treleaven was able to be on the bench, as was Walder, so the injury situation is getting slightly better as the games are still coming thick and fast.
As on Saturday, the Crows started very slowly whilst the home side rushed around like an express train hurtling through a station it doesn't stop at, putting the pressure on every Crow player immediately they got anywhere near the ball, giving them no time and stopping them from getting in to any rhythm.
The Bears played some neat football at times, the type of football which makes people wonder why they are so low in the league, their performance on the night was one of a team higher up in the table and if they carry on playing like they did then they'll be mid-table come the end of season.
Whilst the Crows were struggling to get through the gears the home side were able to look to get the ball forward as quick as possible to their big target man, Andy Irvine, who is more than capable in the air or holding the ball up and bringing other players in to the game.
In the end this tactic worked, a ball up to Irvine, a pass out to the right winger who was able to surge forward before crossing a ball in to the area and Irvine applied the coup de grace, putting the ball in the net and the Crows out of their lethargic mood after 9 minutes.
Whilst the home side might be called the Bears, the early goal seemed to wake the seemingly hibernating Crows and from the restart looked to become more inventive, pass the ball quicker and move around the pitch a lot better.
It only took a further 8 minutes for parity to be restored, Carrington firing the ball home from just inside the area after good work by Attwood. It was no more than the away side deserved and was a fair reflection of the game up to that point.
The Crows then took the game to the home side even more following the equaliser, although Bearsted still looked dangerous on their breakaways. One downside during this period was that returning debutant, Barton, incurred the wrath of the match referee and was shown a yellow card.
After 41 minutes it became 2-1 to the Crows, good work on the left wing by Muggeridge sees him cross the ball with the outside of his right foot and Stone was able to tuck away his third goal in two games at the back post. Therefore, the half time break was a satisfying one from a Crows point of view.
Turner had to be replaced at half time due to injury, Trotter coming on in his place but it didn't upset the Crows flow and after 51 minutes a great effort from Attwood on the edge of the area hit the outside of their right hand post and went out for a goal kick.
The away side still carried on playing some lovely football and that was rewarded in the 62nd minute when Carrington got his second of the night, rifling the ball home with venom from a pass by Attwood.
Unfortunately, the two goal lead didn't last long, two minutes in fact, Crabb turning the ball in to his own net whilst trying to cut out a lowish cross in to the area, Ellis having no chance of stopping it.
In the 65th minute, Carrington went off to applause from the Crow faithful and was replaced by Clarke. Attwood then went off in the 75th minute to be replaced by Treleaven, both Attwood and Carrington had put in a tremendous amount of work during their time on the pitch, as they always do and they deserved their rest.
In the 80th minute Clarke received a yellow card for what no one was sure about and the Crows must have felt that some decisions were going against them as we had two players booked but the home side, who were no less competitive than us, had no one booked at all during the game.
Little did we know that only 5 minutes after Clarke getting his yellow card, our captain, Lee Carey, was going to see red, literally, after he kicked out at a Bearsted player right in front of the referee. Whatever the provocation such actions are always disappointing as he will now miss three games, the first of those will be against Shoreham FC in the RUR Cup on the 1st November.
Still the Crows looked comfortable during the rest of the match and added on time and the final whistle blew without further incident. A 3-2 away win, eight wins on the trot, ten wins out of eleven games, only a draw spoiling things so we shouldn't expect to be at our best every game but second in the table at this time of the season will do me nicely.
