The Bears host The Crows on Tuesday night.
Eighteenth plays fourth when the Crows travel to what will be a new ground for us since we joined the SCEFL for the 2014/15 season. The home side have found the league a bit tough so far having won just one at home in the league, drawing two and losing one out of their four home games. In those games they've scored eleven goals and conceded nine.
They have played more league games away from home, seven in total, winning one, drawing one and losing five so it could be argued they are in a slightly false position until the fixtures are balanced out more.
That single league away win was at Ashford United though and they have had a couple of good results recently, beating Erith Town at home 4-1 in the league and following that up with a 4-1 home win against Lordswood in a cup fixture.
Whilst we were coming from behind to beat Sheppey United in the only SCEFL fixture played on Saturday, the Bears were losing 2-0 away at SCEFL Division 1 side Glebe FC in the Kent Reliance Trophy. However, even though Glebe may be a division lower, they are currently lying second in the Division 1 table, just behind leaders Rusthall FC.
Of course Bearsted were promoted with Sheppey United to the SCEFL Premier at the end of the 2015/16 season and the amalgamation of the Kent Invicta League and the SCEFL came in to force. With the SCEFL only having nineteen teams last season, two teams were allowed to come up whilst Holmesdale FC went down to the newly formed SCEFL Division 1.
Therefore, it seems they are not a bad side at home but struggle a bit on the road, so the Crows will prepare for this game just as hard as they would if they were playing a top of the table side. We all know there's no easy games in this league and every team is capable of beating any other team on any given day.
One player the Crows will need to keep an eye on is Andy Irvine, who used to play for our near neighbours Tunbridge Wells of course, as he scored all four goals in the win against Erith Town and also bagged one of the goals in the win against Lordswood in the cup.
Attwood and Walder may be available for the Crows although Tear and Treleaven are still likely to be missing due to injury. Turner will still be able to play, despite getting sent off on Saturday so the management team will have a few selection decisions to make prior to Tuesday, which is a good position to be in as competition for starting places is so strong at the moment.
For those of you who are intending to go to the game the address is Ofham Sports Club, Honey Lane, White Horse Lane, Ofham, Maidstone, Kent ME15 8RG. From Crowborough it's roughly a 33 mile journey there, around a 66 mile round trip, although that depends which way you go of course but most SatNavs will send you via the Bunny Lane, Forest Road way and through Pembury, East Peckham. Time wise it would be advisable to allow 1 hour for travelling, especially if you've never been there before, just like me.
Hope to see as many of you as possible there on Tuesday night. Come on you Crows.
