The Dockers v The Crows on Saturday.
Top of the table Crows will have a new ground to travel to on Saturday when they play Erith Town FC. Previously we've had to travel to Badger Sports Ground, home of Cray Valley PM FC to play the Dockers but since the start of this season, after Greenwich Borough FC bought a long-term lease to that particular ground, Erith Town had to find an alternative home which they've done at VCD Athletic FC.
The Vickers play at Old Road, Crayford, Kent DA1 4DN, although the Dockers put the name "Oakwood" in front of the address and that could be because the access point is the Oakwood Tennis Club entrance, although I have not found any concrete evidence that this is the case either way yet.
Games against the Dockers have provided plenty of goals in the past, in the 2014/15 season we won 3-2 away to them in the September but then lost 3-0 at home to them in the last game of the season. They had to win the game to stay up so they had a far greater incentive than us for that game but in reality they would have stayed up anyway, Rochester United finished bottom but with Phoenix Sports leaving the league as champions and Lingfield relegating themselves to Step 6 by asking to go back to the SCFL, no club was relegated.
In the 2015/16 season we lost 3-2 away to them, again played in September but beat them 3-0 at home in the return fixture in December 2015. Both the clubs improved their final league placing from the season before, we finished 7th whilst the Dockers finished in 13th place, a considerable performance on the season before.
On to this season and it has been one of a season of struggle for Erith Town so far as they sit in 17th place in the table after playing 22 games. Their record is won 5, drawn 3, lost 14, goals for 28, goals against 65 which means they have a negative goal difference of 37 and 18 points.
We have not played them yet this season so I'm sure they'll want to put one over us as they battle for points to keep them in the Premier Division, although the bottom two spots are occupied by Fisher FC and Beckenham Town, both with 12 points and of course we travel to play Beckenham Town on Wednesday, 18th January 2017.
The last match played by the Dockers was last Saturday away at our near neighbours Tunbridge Wells FC and they ended up losing 3-1, two goals by Josh Biddlecombe, one a penalty right on half time, doing the damage.
Their managers are Ian Jenkins and Ricky Bennett and many of you I'm sure will remember Jenkins from his spell in charge of Greenwich Borough FC when they were riding high in the SCEFL before they gained promotion at the end of last season under player/manager, Graham Alexander, following Jenkins' dismissal.
Hopefully, as many of you as possible will make the effort to support the lads as they try to make it 31 games unbeaten and earn the 3 points which see us remain at the head of the table. However, it won't be an easy game and everyone will need to be focused on the job in hand, which is to win and bring those points home with them.
