CROWS MAKE IT 7 OUT OF 9 POINTS.

CROWS MAKE IT 7 OUT OF 9 POINTS.

Malcolm Boyes20 Sep 2015 - 11:11

Not a Champagne performance but the Crows had enough sparkle to get the points in the end.

Three points is three points, as they say.
The Crows knew that this was a game they should win and probably started off as favourites to do so, with the visitors second from bottom and coming off the back of a home defeat in midweek.
This assumption was further emphasised after only 3 minutes as Treleaven had an easy tap-in to make it 1-0 to the Crows following great work by Shea on the right-hand side.
The home side tried to carry on playing their football from the restart, Ridley being the fulcrum from which everything positive flowed as he controlled the game however, the match started to become a bit of a slog and huff and puff from both sides.
It was not until the 27th minute that the Crows got their second goal, Treleaven was fouled some 25 yards out and using some quick thinking, took the free-kick himself and slotted a great through ball to pick up Ridley's run into the Rochester penalty-area. Ridley composed himself and slotted the ball calmly past the advancing goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.
Rochester tried to get back in the game but were not causing the Crows back four many problems, Brenyah their most prominent force and after 38 minutes, Cooper was taken off and replaced by Hood but it was still mainly one-way traffic towards the Rochester goal.
After 44 minutes, 2-0 became 3-0, Rochester centre-half and captain, Penfold, diverted a dangerous cross from Treleaven into his own net as he tried to stop the ball arriving at the feet of the on-coming Carrington for a certain goal.
3-0 up at half-time and most of the spectators, from Crowborough anyway, were looking forward to the second-half and more of the same with the home side dominating possession, creating chances galore and scoring goals for fun.
However, as any football experienced person knows, it rarely works that way and sure enough, the away side were a different proposition in the second-half compared to the first and the home side didn't reach the heights with their play that they had before the break.
The Crows were slow out of the blocks and their tempo and passing was poor compared to the first-half and after 50 minutes Rochester got themselves back in the match, Payne having time to control the ball in the Crows penalty-area, turn and shout the ball past Hamspon to make it 3-1.
Things soon got even worse for the home side, after 62 minutes, Payne volleying the ball into the net from six-yards out whilst totally being left unmarked, 3-2 and the visitors tails were up as they then attacked with purpose, trying to get it back to 3-3.
Gradually, the Crows woke up and started to excerpt some pressure on the away sides defence, which led to Shea taking a corner for the Crows and the cross was met by a diving Everest header from some twelve-yards out which flew into the top of the net and it was now 4-2.
One could see, visibly, the heads of the Rochester players drop and normality was restored, with the Crows going forward more and more, Everest, Boddy and Treleaven all having good chances to put the game beyond doubt.
On 79 minutes, Shea went off, Rawlins coming on and this started a flurry of substitutions from both sides, Earle goes off, Wait on, Ridley off, Waterman on, all this happening in or around the 82 minute. There's also a booking for Thomas of Rochester for dissent.
As the match draws to a close, with the Crows still on top, Brenyah sees a yellow card for pulling a Crow's player's shirt and Hinkson goes off, with George Allen, a member of our young reserve side, coming on to make his debut.
Therefore, the game finished 4-2 to the Crows, a deserved win in the end, although they made hard-work of a game they should have won by a greater margin and they definitely did not play at their best throughout.
Still, they have played far better at times and lost, this time they were under par but won the game in the end, it's a funny old game from time to time.
I personally gave my MOTM to Callum Ridley who displayed skill and calmness throughout the game and he was closely followed by Kevin Everest and Scott Treleaven.
