The Crows ended a run of 11 games since 28th January with an away game at table topping Newhaven, with both sides top of the form table.
It took 11 minutes for either side to fashion a real chance, and it was our high flying hosts with it, perhaps against the run of play, with Martin Grant making a fine save to keep the scoreline 0-0.
2 minutes later, and it was Harry Forster, creating some magic and breaking into the Newhaven area, he tried to find Murrain, who may well have got a touch as the ball fell through to Killick 6 yards out - he wasn’t going to miss from there as The Crows made the perfect start.
It didn’t take long for Newhaven to equalise, however. From a corner, the ball found it’s way to the back post and the head of a Newhaven player to level it up.
The game evened up at that point with both sides having chances. Newhaven though finished the half strongly, and began to bombard the Crowborough goal with a number of efforts, before finally beating the excellent Martin Grant in the 42nd minute to go in at the break ahead - and given the way the half ended, it was probably fair.
Harrison Mayhew made way at the break, for Will Puffette, perhaps symptomatic of the hectic schedule recently.
The Crows started the 2nd half brightly, a Pearson free kick looked to deceive the keeper, but was well saved, before Tom Pearson - who just can’t stop scoring, met a brilliant cross from Harvey Killick, who made his own luck with some superb skill, with his head, to level the scores.
By this point Muggsys men could sense that 3 points were for the taking, and kept piling the pressure on, although the Newhaven defence were solid and well organised.
Jack Mayhew left the field for Jacob Lambert, as Muggsy shuffled his pack, and as we were taking the game to our hosts, Newhaven scored a 3rd against the run of play.
Our lads heads never dropped, and the pressure was maintained with Harry London, Charlie Watkins and Dom Welsh all entering the fray late on as we searched for a deserved equaliser.
But it wasn’t to be, Newhaven celebrated the final whistle - they knew they’d been pushed by a Crows side that can be proud of their performance, against a team that will most likely be playing Step 4 next season.
Man of the Match: Harry Forster
Final Score: 3-2
