Crows take the points against Roffey

Muggsys men claim a hard fought win to go 6th

Bottom hosted 7th as the season continued away to Roffey on Saturday, with The Crows looking to maintain their strong recent form with another 3 points.

A strong, attacking lineup was the order of the day, with Muggsy finding space for Hyland, Killick, Pearson, Lambert, Forster and Murrain, with Grant keeping the number 1 shirt, and a familiar back 4 of the Mayhew brothers, captain Tom Boddy and Rory Salter.

The pitch was noticeably smaller that The Crows are used to, looking very narrow, which over the 90 didn’t help our wingers.

The Crows started brightly, and looked to maintain possession in the Roffey half early doors, with an early chance to go 1 up going narrowly wide of the keepers right post after some neat play by Murrain.

On 15 minutes The Crows were awarded a penalty, which Tom Pearson, who has 6 goals now in his last 5 outings, coolly finished from the penalty spot.

The Crows continued to dominate the first half, but minutes from half time, keeper Martin Grant made a wonder save, as the Roffey number 9 smashed a decent effort towards goal, but Grant was equal to it. That save would prove to be as good as a goal, and the lads disappeared into the changing room a goal ahead at the break.

The second half was an edgier affair, but The Crows were still the better side. Lambert made his way through 2 Roffey defenders coming in off the left, but the keeper was equal to it. Killick put another shot over shortly after, following some some excellent play through the middle from Harry Forster.

Lambert had another chance shortly after the hour mark, Pearson picked out Forster from the left, who played in Lambert.

As the game wore on, Hyland must’ve thought he’d done enough to bag the winner from Forsters free kick, floated in from the left to towards Hyland but his effort went just over.

Roffey began to come back at us, desperately trying to earn a point on the day, hitting the post and captain Tom Boddy clearing off the line late on.

We held on and gratefully took the 3 point home, moving up to 6th in the process!

Full time: 1-0
Man of the Match: Ollie Hyland
