The Crows arrived at Little Common as the league's form side, with Little Common in 14th, but our hosts having the most games in hand in the league.
Muggsy made a couple of changes to the side that beat table topping Crawley Down Gatwick, with Harrison Mayhew returning to the XI in place of Will Puffette, Leo Vowles starting on the right side in place of Harvey Killick and Tom Pearson returned after his 2 goals against Peacehaven, with Lucas Murrain absent.
You could see before the game that it was going to be tough, the playing surface was not flat, and certainly didn’t suit The Crows style of play.
The game got off to a calamitous start, and with the first minute Little Common had lumped the ball forwards (something the traveling Crows had to get used to throughout the 90) and scored the first goal of the game. The first 20 minutes or so saw plenty of endeavor, but very little end product as our boys struggled to get to grips with the playing surface. But then things started to click a little, with chances coming with some great work from Forster down the right, teed up for Lambert but it was saved. Minutes later Leo Vowles crossed and Tom Pearson expertly volleyed but it was off the post.
The Crows battled on, but couldn’t find the net, and went in at half time 1-0 down.
In the second half, The Crows started brightly, camping out in the Little Common half for the opening minutes, with Jack Mayhew bursting through the defence, his shot stinging the palms of the Little Common goalkeeper.
Against the run of play, Little Common attacked down the right, crossed and their number 9 scored a header. 2-0 down and 53 minutes on the clock. And then, further misery just under 10 minutes later. Another long ball pumped forward in hope found their striker, who slipped a simple ball across goal that was finished for their 3rd of the afternoon.
It would have been easy for heads to drop, but the last 30 minutes of the game saw The Crows fighting spirit as they attempted a remarkable come back.
The Crossbar was rattled and just after Tom Pearson was in space to the left hand edge of the box and walloped it from about 30 yards to give traveling support hope.
The Crows kept the pressure on and in the final minute of time, Danny Powell, provider of the first goal, was at it again with a wonder flick into Alex Joy, who buried from close range.
Unfortunately time ran out, but the response to going 3 down will no doubt be a positive to take away. Little Common took the 3 points but on another day, they’d have traveled back to Crowborough.
Final score: 3-2
