THE BATTLE OF THE BOROUGHS ENDS IN A STALEMATE.

Malcolm Boyes27 Apr 2015 - 09:27

A late Scott Treleaven goal earns a point for the Crows who had to battle hard throughout. Match report by Keith Harmer.

A case of rich man, poor man, however, money is not everything.
High flying Greenwich arrived at the community stadium with a strong line up including two of the divisions top marksmen in Gary Alexander and Mohammad Eisa .
Crows could afforded the luxury of being able to field their own strong line up with Ross and Scott Treleaven , Sam Carrington as a forward three aided by the skilful Wayne Clarke so there was much cause for optimism by the home support .
The visitors were quickly in their stride and Collick was tested early but most of the efforts were straight at him , Eisa with one good shot but Collick gets his body behind the ball and holds well.
Crows are getting forward and Ross Treleaven is particularly prominent in holding the ball up along with brother Scott and Sam Carrington but the Greenwich defence is strong and well organised and clear cut chances are not forthcoming.
Clarke goes on a strong run but is eventually crowded out by a number of defenders .before Eisa gets the ball into the net , but is clearly offside as he lobs over Collick.
A mix up at the back by the visiting goalkeeper Holloway and his full back Day causes minor panic as the attempted pass back beats the keeper but goes wide of the post for a needless corner .
Alexander and Vines combine on the left and the cross is put behind by a determined Butler for a corner which is met by Alexander , but his header loops over the bar .
Both Tom Boddy and Paul Butler again get in great interceptions as the visitors get forward in numbers ..
Collick comes to the rescue as he fields a long dangerous cross from the left by Clark with Eisa and Alexander challenging .
Crows are getting some joy on the right and decent possession at times but a resolute defence are not giving any clear cut chances .
First booking of the game as Tom Cameron is harshly carded for not releasing the ball after a free kick is awarded ..
Scott Treleaven and Alex Rich with a fine move on the left ends with the latter shooting wide .
Barton with a great tackle as the visitors break forward with the Crows players appealing vainly for an offside .
Mohammad Eisa is the second to get a card as he shoots over Nick Collick after the referees whistle had gone for an offside .
Jason Barton with a timely interception breaks up another attack with a deft header back to Collick .
Two more bookings in quick succession , Gary Alexander rather unlucky for handball and the number two Day for continued dissent disputing one of many decisions .
Just on half time on the right touchline Clark is punished for a challenge on Day for yet another card , but the resultant free kick is cleared by a great header by Tom Boddy , so although the visitors had the best of the first half Crows would be pleased with the 0 – 0 score to build on .

The second half begins with the hosts playing towards the favoured terrace end and the game appears more open , Collicks handling is again spot on as he cuts out a dangerous cross and manages to hold .
Carrington almost cuts out a loose pass but Greenwich recover well.
Tom Boddy with another great headed clearance for Crows , Ross Treleaven with a superb run on the right goes passed two defenders but his great cross is just to strong .
The visitors other full back Clark becomes the sixth player to receive a card for not releasing the ball after a free kick is awarded to Crows .
Ross Treleaven puts the Greenwich defence under pressure with his long throw as Crows push up more .
Then on the hour mark Crows concede a penalty, and it appears that all the good work is undone as Bennett steps up , but his thunderous effort strikes the bar and rebounds out of the stadium , much to the relief of the home players and supporters .
Buoyed by this let off Crows respond well and Scott Treleaven turns and shoots but his effort is headed away for a corner .
The kick is taken and the ball drops to Sam Carrington on the penalty spot and his volley brings out an outstanding save from Holloway , who manages to acrobatically put the ball out for another corner .
Michael Death comes on for Carrington who had played his part after his lay off .
Immediately Ridley and Death combine and the latters cross is dangerous but well defended .
Another long throw by Ross Treleaven causes a degree of panic and brother Scott turns and shoots and the keeper fumbles for a corner.
Nick Collick with a great flying interception cuts out another attack by the visitors
After perhaps Crows best spell it’s the visitors that take the lead , after a break down the left by full back Clark is headed out for a corner the resultant kick is only partially cleared and the ball is recycled by Greenwich and the ball comes across the area and Bennett atones for the earlier penalty miss by sweeping the ball home from close range to put the visitors in the driving seat.
The reversal seemed to inspire Crows as they went out to respond and a superb move at pace involving Ross Treleaven , Clarke ends with Scott Treleaven firng just wide of goal.
With time running out Ryan Hinkson comes on for Callum Ridley as Crows seek some reward from a good response and Clarke duly obliges with a superb cross that is partially cleared and met first time by top scorer Scott Trealeaven who rifles the ball in the net with a superb strike to give keeper Holloway no chance to bring the scores level.
Just after in time added on , more excitement as Scott Treleaven receives the ball and has a clear run with only Gillman in front of him but his powerful shot clears the bar .
The visitors again respond strongly and Collick saves well twice to keep the scores level at full time .
Crows will be delighted with the point against one of the strongest teams in the division also good performances right through the squad with Tom Boddy superb and deserving of his Man of the Match award by the sponsors Carrs Driving Tuition .
