Poor finishing leads to Deal having all the aces.
After the long journey to the Kent coast Crows were met with a firm pitch with a strong wind which was not ideal for playing good football.
Further the unavailability of Tom Cameron and Jon Trotter again meant that Sean Muggeridge had to shuffle the pack with Tom Boddy going to right back and Will Jagger making his full debut at the centre of defence with Captain Jason Barton dropping into the back four.
However with Top Scorer Scott Treleaven making his long awaited return and with Wayne Clarke and Michael Death fit to start Crows would have been optimistic about the balance of the starting line up.
The game started at a ferocious pace with Deal with the wind at their backs getting the ball forward early at every opportunity , so Crows defence were kept busy with aerial
challenges and were dealing with most of what was thrown at them .
The visitors were trying to get the ball down and play but first touch was difficult on the pitch with no time to dwell on the ball .
Rich and Hinkson on the left were combining well with the young left back eager to get forward to support the attack .
Scott Treleaven with a great turn and run gets into the area but his cross just goes behind Clarke with defenders also missing the ball.
Ryan Hinkson gets in a great recovery tackle on Walshe on the right before he can get a cross away .
Next to try his luck is Callum Ridley with some neat control but as he shoots the ball gets a bobble and screws wide of Twymans goal.
Hinkson again with a great interception showing balance and control but is fouled in the process .
Most of Deals attacks are thwarted by their propensity to over hit passes which go through to Collick in the Crows goal , the wind playing a big part in the proceedings .
After half an hour Crows are awarded the first corner of the game , but as soon as the ball is in the air it becomes difficult to predict its path and although Ridley climbs highest it goes past the post .
Just before half time Ryan Hinkson , having picked up a groin injury is replaced by the energetic Jack Funnell , with Alex Rich dropping to the left back berth .
The half comes to and end with Tom Boddy getting rather an unlucky yellow card for a coming together on the half way line which looked accidental rather than malicious .
So few , if any , clear cut chances the wind and pitch being the only winner .
HT 0 - 0.
If there was a lack of excitement for the Crows support in the first half then the game was to come alight as the visitors took gradual control with Ridley and Funnell combining well with a good cross into the box . Another good move sees Treleaven stab just wide deflected off a defender for a corner which causes a scramble in the Deal area but eventually comes out .
Barton breaks up a Deal attack by heading back deftly to Collick in the Crows goal.
Ridley plays a ball down the left and Treleaven powers forward but his first time shot is well covered by the home keeper .
Deal have a free kick in a dangerous area but the wind again plays its part and it goes two yards wide .
Crows appear to be getting the upper hand , Clarke and Funnell fashion another corner as the pressure builds , Rich heads wide with what was a difficult chance .
Just before the hour mark Crows break the deadlock as Tom Boddy makes a storming run into the area after a one –two with Death and the full back causes all sorts of confusion in the Deals defence and the ball runs to Ridley who turns and shoots low inside the post for a well taken goal . DEAL 0 v CROWS 1 .
Deal Respond and are awarded yet another in a series of free kicks but the full back Tanners shot goes well wide , much to the displeasure of the home support.
Michael Death fires over from distance as Crows try to increase the lead .
Deal replace number two Tanner with number fifteen Charlie Priddle .
Somewhat against the run of play Deal fashion an equaliser as the big number nine Connor Coyne gets away into the area and although Nick Collick comes out to narrow the angle the centre forward places his shot across the keeper on the ground to bring the scores level at one all.
From seemingly being in control matters now go from bad to worse as three minutes later Deal , who had not threatened much , get a dubious free kick in a dangerous area , to Crows consternation the hosts number ten , fires in a beauty , no doubt using the wind as the shot starts high over the wall and dips low inside Collicks right hand post . Deal Town 2 v Crows 1 .
There are now two defining moments that influence the outcome of the match , firstly Wayne Clarke picking his way through a number of defenders in a central position hits an absolute thunderbolt , with “ Goal “ written all over it but keeper Twyman somehow gets his body across and the ball is deflected of his leg and loops over the bar .
Tom Boddy is replaced by sixteen year old Jason Hinkson as Crows throw caution to the wind.
Will Jagger gets in a good tackle as Crows are caught going forward in search of an equaliser .
The same player is again alert to win the ball but is on the receiving end of a bad challenge by the goalscorer Walshe , who is rightly carded .
Micheal Death tries his luck from distance as Crows are running out of time but the firmly hit shot is well fielded by Twyman .
The second defining moment of the match with time running out as Jack Funnell is clearly tripped in the area , but elects not to go down under challenge and the referee waves play on , in hindsight probably not the right decision .
Then to add to Crows woe , with the visitors pushing up substitute , Priddle , gets away on the left and fires a very good shot low across the exposed Collick to give Deal an improbable Three – One score line on the day .
Considering the chances created by Crows and the degree of domination a very disappointing outcome .
Plus points , the return of Scott Treleaven who got a good ninety minutes in , the performance of Will Jagger at the back and before he went off Ryan Hinkson , who was excellent at left back.
