Ringmer (1) 1 vs Crowborough Athletic (2) 2

Paul Boggis7 Nov 2011 - 17:06

Player manager Dave Adams leads from the front scoring a brace to secure all three points.

The Crows travelled to the Caburn Ground on Saturday which has proved to be a happy hunting ground in recent seasons. This year was no different as again the Crows went away with all three points to move into ninth place in a battling display against a good footballing Ringmer side. It was player Manager Dave Adams who was the hero of the the day with two terrific left foot strikes; all this despite not playing for two months.
Crowborough reverted back to their 4-5-1 formation with Boddy, Adams and Taylor coming in for Bromley and the suspended pair Sam Saunders and Thompson.
Boddy won the toss and decided to play downhill; this was rewarded with one of the goals of the season: Adams created some space for himself outside the box then hit a bullet of a shot that hardly left the floor which swerved viciously inside Ringmer keeper Tom Rand’s near post giving the stopper no chance. Ringmer came back strongly and put Crowborough on the back foot with their neat passing football. The defence did well in holding out and then against the run of play on 31 minutes the Crows doubled their lead when Culverhouse put Adams through and again he finished exquisitely with his left peg. Ringmer again came back strongly and Head in the Crowborough goal was having to make some sharp saves. On 42 minutes Ringmer got a deserved goal when the lively Nick Wheeler wasn’t closed down and then hit a peach of a shot that bought the home side back in the game. Two minutes later it looked to all that Ringmer had equalized when centre back Aaron Hason rose to meet a corner and his bullet header looked as if it was destined for the roof of the net only for the diving Head to get his fingertips to the ball to push over.
In an exciting second half Crowborough kept their discipline well to see out the game. With 30 minutes to go young 16 year old Callum Ridley came on and didn’t look at all out of place on his debut for the Crows and looks an exciting prospect.
