Dan McLoughlin opened the scoring early on before Darren Annis doubled the hosts’ lead 20 minutes in. Kevin Everest then headed the Crows back into the game moments into the second half. However, Lancing restored their two goal cushion five minutes later through Titus Paterson, and even though a Harry Constable own goal again put the Crows within touching distance of a point, Michael Sims sealed the points with 20 minutes to go.
Crowborough almost broke the deadlock within 5 minutes, when Naim Rouane beat Constable, before playing the ball across goal to Tom Saunders, whose overhead kick from 12 yards flew narrowly wide of the far bottom corner.
Lancing came close soon after, when Sam O’Regan’s header forced a rare error from Tom Boddy which allowed Annis through on goal, but his drive was well saved by Ben Head. The Division Two Runners-Up from last year took the lead after 9 minutes. Graham Martin’s corner picked out McLoughlin at the front post, who got infront of his marker as his overhead kick across goal went beyond the reach of the diving Head and into the far corner.
Boro then came close as they had a brief spell of pressure, when Rouane’s free-kick from the edge of the area curled around the wall, but only to be denied by the fingertips of the diving Jamie Banasco-Zaragoza. From the resulting corner, Sam Saunders’ effort failed to clear the front post, but Rouane put the ball back into the area for the unmarked Boddy at the far post, but the centre-half could only put the ball wide of the near post.
However, Lancing doubled their lead when a ball over Dan Tear found Annis, who beat Everest before driving the ball past Head at his near post from a tight angle.
Before the interval the Crows had a opportunity to pull a goal back, when Rouane’s impressive ball through picked out Mike Culverhouse, who went one on one with the keeper, but only to see his lob loop narrowly wide of the post.
Boro began the second half brightly, and reduced the deficit just 2 minutes in, when Sam Saunders’ corner was cleared, but only for his cross at the second attempt picking out Everest, whose bullet header came off the inside of the post, and despite the efforts of the scrambling Banasco-Zaragoza, found the net.
However the two goal lead was soon restored as Wayne Joseph played the ball across the face of goal from the left, and found the path of Paterson, who drilled the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Boro didn’t give in though, and deservedly came back into the game again in fortunate circumstances. Sam Saunder’s inswinging free-kick through the crowd of players in the Lancing area eventually came off the chest of Constable, and the ball looped away from the helpless Banasco-Zaragoza and into the bottom corner with 28 minutes to play.
Lancing ensured all three points after 70 minutes, when O’Regan’s free-kick from long range was pushed out by the diving Head, and Sims pounced on the loose ball as he fired the rebound away from the keeper and into the far bottom corner.
Crowborough now host Sidley United on Tuesday night, before travelling to Erith Town on Saturday in the FA Cup.
