On a very warm July afternoon, the Crowborough team that took the field looked to have shaken off last weekend’s Courier Cup defeat, putting in a much improved performance.
Fielding what appeared to be a more settled side, Crowborough made their opponents at times look pedestrian as their movement caused problems all game for the Crawley Down defense.
In a frantic first 20 minutes Crowborough equalized twice, first by Tom Saunders and then from a thunderbolt from his brother, Sam Saunders. These cancelled out two disappointing goals to concede but both had elements of being offside. Finally beginning to show his true ability, Charlie Ottway got Crowboroughs third, which he well deserved for his tireless running and closing down of the opposition.
Following a number of half time changes, Crawley Down fought back and got a deserved equalizer. The game was heading for a commendably draw when luck left the Crows and Crawley Down grabbed a winner.
A very promising performance.
