It was a cold, wet and windy evening on the south coast on Tuesday, as The Crows were in town for a Sussex Senior Cup match against high flying Peacehaven.

Muggsy rang the changes, understandably as Decembers wintery weather has meant only 3 games had been played since the beginning of December. Matt Larkin retained his place in goal for his second Crows start, with Jack Mayhew, Salter, Boddy and Puffette making up the defence. Sincs returned from suspension joined in the engine room by the versatile Welsh, Forster played just in front of them and just off the in form Murrain, with Brown and London providing the width.

The game was by no means a classic, with the weather doing its best to get involved in the game, but it clearly impacted both sides.

Our hosts had the better of the possession but didn’t really threaten until late on, whereas The Crows remained disciplined and patient throughout with a dogged, workmanlike performance. After a few early chances, we got our reward towards the end of the half. Minutes before half time, Rory Salter - deployed on the left of defence, moved with real purpose in the Peacehaven half, before unleashing a delicious left footed delivery into the penalty area, for Lucas Murrain to bundle home. The Crows certainly finished the half in the ascendancy, with Forster forcing a cracking save with a right footed effort from the edge of the box.

The second half came and it was much of the same, with the Crows the more likely to score. In the 66th minute, our best opportunity to finish our hosts came, Killick, on as a sub for Brown, took on 2 Peacehaven defenders down the right, before a perfectly weighted pass to Forster, just inside the box who in turn picked out Murrain around the penalty spot, who took it round the last desperate challenge with some clever footwork, before foring a whisker wide.

As the game wore on into its final minutes, Peacehaven ramped the pressure up, but our defence held steady, and a place in another quarter final secured.
