Treleaven scores the winner.
After 90+4 minutes of play the Crows left the Beacon in the dark of night knowing that they had eventually secured a quarterfinal place in the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup where they will face either the Seagulls or the Lions for a place in the semi-final.
For those that look at league tables and relative league positions, some may have thought that the outcome was a foregone conclusion, however, those associated with the Crows know that normally games against Hassocks are never that easy and they have the advantage in the number of wins, 13 to our 8, prior to last night's match.
The home side made a couple of changes from their last match and for the Crows, Clarke, Vickers, Morley, Pearson and Treleaven were given starting slots whilst Appiah, Walder, Baitup, Shea, Perry and Crabb were not in the squad at all. Tear, Attwood and Carey were given a slot on the bench, as was reserve goalkeeper, Dan Smith.
The rain prior to the match just gave the pitch a nice covering of water and from the kick off the game was very much an end to end affair with both teams taking it in turns to attack one another, albeit both defences were able to cope fairly easily with whatever was thrown at them.
Turner had an early chance for the Crows after 7 minutes but the effort was blocked, James Westlake then had a go for Hassocks but it went well wide before Broadbent, in the home goal, saved an effort from Pearson in the 12th minute.
Gault then forced Ellis to make a smart save and keep the score at 0-0 in the 15th minute. Carrington talked himself in to getting a yellow card before having to be substituted in the 20th minute due to a slight knee injury, Carey coming on as his replacement. In the 24th minute perhaps the Crows should have gone 1-0 up, Pearson's effort following a scramble in the Hassocks area being blocked on the line and cleared.
As the half went on, Treleaven had a direct free kick saved by Broadbent, Pearson had another goal-bound effort blocked by Marsh before Barton had a header cleared off the line in the 42nd minute.
Therefore, we reached the break with the score at 0-0, the Robins were giving their all, as were the Crow players but that one bit of inspirational play that would open up the defence just wasn't quite there however, none of the spectators present could be unhappy with what they had seen so far.
The second half belonged to the Crows and to try and rescue back the initiative, the Robins decided to take Hawkes off and Lewis Westlake came on in the 53rd minute to replace him. Only a minute later Ellis had to make a great save from Gault as the ball was heading towards the Crows goal and Ellis just managed to get his hand to the effort and knock it around the post for a corner.
Clarke, playing as a right wing-back started to put over a few tantalising crosses but quite often there wasn't anyone there for the Crows to apply the coup de gras. In the 63rd minute Pearson had another effort seemingly blocked on the line and then Vickers had a good effort saved by Broadbent in the 70th minute.
James Westlake then became the second player to see yellow in the 74th minute and seconds later from a Muggeridge corner, Turner headed the ball wide when well placed, much to the disappointment of the travelling Crow faithful.
Attwood then replaced Pearson only a minute later and Muggeridge missed a good chance in the 77th minute, heading the ball just over the bar when well placed. The Crows were now camped in the Hassocks half and Muggeridge made Broadbent make a good save in the 81st minute.
The best bit of football on the night brought the goal in the 83rd minute, a neat passing move involving Vickers, Carey, Treleaven and Muggeridge saw the latter put a ball through to Treleaven and he put the ball away with a neat finish, much to the delight of all involved with the Crows.
Bant then went off and ex-Crow Michael Death came on to see if he could snatch an equaliser but in truth if anyone was going to score it was going to be the Crows, both Attwood and Treleaven went close before the final whistle blew and the Crows were through.
We will face either Brighton & Hove Albion or Pagham FC in the quarterfinal and they play each other on the 18th January 2017, date and venue will be communicated once this match has taken place.
Tom Vickers was awarded the Man of the Match for the Crows as he ran the midfield from start to finish, defending well We he had to, driving the side on and supporting the forwards we able to.
That's 26 games unbeaten now, 23 wins in those 26 games and we all look forward to finishing the year at home to Tunbridge Wells FC on Tuesday 27th December for a 3:00pm kick off.
