Jack now faces his former club.
The replay on Wednesday night was very much a carbon copy of Saturday's game at the Community Stadium. The first half being the better of the two, Bedfont starting very well, relying on balls in to the wing areas and getting their fast, nippy forwards to chase them down at every opportunity.
We started slowly again and had to claw our way back in to the game by having to fight hard in the midfield area and compete for every ball in the forward positions. Our players compete for everything anyway and whilst this game was not quite as open as Saturday's, it was still exciting stuff to watch.
Moody, Sanders and Wilson were still the biggest threat to us going through to the forth round for Bedfont Sports but as they did on Saturday, the unchanged Crows contained them for most of the game, whilst Attwood, Carrington, Treleaven and Muggeridge caused the Bedfont defence to work hard and concentrate to stop us going through, something they were not able to do eventually.
Sanders and Harris tested Ellis early on and after 15 minutes Carrington hit the post with a drive from just outside the area, the ball eventually rebounding to safety and was cleared. After 25 minutes Hickes and Wilson both made Ellis make a save and then in the 29th minute Turner poked the ball just wide of the post after Buss, in the Bedfont goal, dropped a cross at his feet.
The change of goalkeeper for the home side was may be a surprise to the Crows after seeing how well Richardson had played for them on Saturday as an emergency stand in due to Buss not feeling well. Buss is their regular goalie it seems but Richardson must have felt hard done by.
One difference from Saturday's match is that we took the lead in this game instead of coming from behind, Carrington putting the ball over the line in the 33rd minute after Buss had dropped the ball once again. The Crow fans did wonder initially if the referee might give a free kick to the goalie for the aerial challenge but he didn't and to be fair to the home side they never appealed for it either, 1-0 to the Crows then.
Perhaps Wilson should have equalised only 3 minutes later but he put a good chance wide and for the rest of the half there weren't any good chances created by either side, so the half time interval was reached with the Crows just about deserving to have their noses in front.
Bedfont had the better of the second half on Saturday and they came out for the second half of the replay in exactly the same manner and they were rewarded in the 47th minute with an equaliser, Bettamer heading the ball in from close range after Turner deflected a cross shot to him.
The match then became nip and tuck with Attwood to the fore for the Crows before the first yellow card was shown to Carrington in the 62nd minute for a tackle on Mbonkwi. Two minutes later, Baxter replaced Harris for the home side and Treleaven saw yellow for dissent it seems in the 71st minute.
With the scores level, both sides were trying their best to get the next goal and a bit of frustration saw Moody become the first Bedfont player booked in the 71st minute and in the 79th minute a quality move saw Walder play a superb ball over the defence to Muggeridge making a diagonal run in to the area, with good control and an accurate shot, it became 2-1 to the Crows and the 4th round beckoned.
Mbonkwi was then replaced by Drissi in the 82nd minute as the home side sought to find yet another equaliser. In the 84th minute they got that equaliser, Baxter hit a thunderous shot goal wards from 25 yards out and with Ellis not even moving, it hit the cross bar and was then put out for a corner, this led to a cross coming in to the edge of the area and Jeffries was able to head the ball back across the goal and past Ellis for 2-2.
The thoughts of all the spectators then turned to extra time and even the prospect of penalties seemed to be on the cards however, as the Crows have proved many times during the 22 unbeaten match run, the players never give up and it was their turn to go in search of a winner.
Eventually a corner was awarded in the 87th minute and following some confusion in the home side's defence, Turner was allowed a header which was initially blocked but the rebound came back to him and he was able to nod the ball in the net, despite taking a knock to his nose for his pains.
After treatment the goal-scoring hero left the pitch and was replaced by Appiah as the Crows looked to close out the remaining minutes and protect their hard earned win. Eventually the final whistle blew and it was to rapturous applause the Crow players left the pitch as they marched on to the 4th round and a home game against Eastbourne Town.
Personally, I think the two games against Bedfont Sports have been two of the hardest ones we've played this season and their league position defies the ability they have within their squad. Whether they are able to field the same side every week may be a reason why they aren't as high up as their play suggests they should be and we wish them good luck for the rest of the season.
