A wet night, nothing unusual there this summer.
As benefits the summer we've had so far it was raining cats and dogs when the Crows arrived at the ground and with lightening in the skies one wondered if the game would ever start.
However, the rain did ease and by the half time break the sun was shining brightly in the evening sky. By this time the Crows were winning 2-1, Mici giving us a 1-0 lead after 3 minutes and but for an impressive display by the Oakwood 'keeper, it could have been three or four before the next significant even of the half.
After 18 minutes Oakwood made it 1-1, their number 10 equalising with a neat finish from just inside the area. It has to be said the hosts deserved their goal as they dominated from about the 15th minute and for a period of some 15 minutes looked the more determined side and could have taken the lead had it not been for a great finger-tip save by Dan Smith in the Crows goal.
The Crows did spurn a chance to go 2-1 in front in the 23rd minute when Attwood had his penalty magnificently saved by the Oakwood stopper.
Eventually, the away side gained a resemblance of control again and took the lead in the 43rd minute, Biddlecombe putting the ball away after an assist from Mici.
The match was played on an outside pitch and therefore the respective half time team talks were aired in public for all to hear. To say that from a Crows perspective some home truths were said to our players would not convey the strength of the feelings of our management team during the break.
With a total of twenty players attending the fixture, plenty of substitutions were made at the break, Carey, S. Smith, Mici, Muggeridge, Biddlecombe and D. Smith coming off, to be replaced by Carrington, Boddy, Butler, Waterman, Treleaven and Collick going on.
The half time talk and changes certainly worked as the Crows made it 3-1 in the 47th minute, Attwood tapping home after and assist from Treleaven. It became 4-1 only a minute later, Carrington crossing for Treleaven to hit a great volley in to the home side's net.
Fuller then made it 5-1 with a great 25 yard lob over the goalkeeper in the 57th minute. He was then substituted in the 65th minute, Clarke replacing him.
Further substitutions were made in the 71st minute, Attwood and Turner leaving the field and Muggeridge and S. Smith replacing them. Only 4 minutes later, Ede replaced Allan, who was playing as a trialist.
Oakwood have always been a physically competitive side to play against and in the end Carrington had to leave the field after a tackle and to be replaced by Biddlecombe in the 85th minute.
The second half was a lot more one way with the Crows dominating but a 5-1 win was the end result, another good work out, lessons were learned and now it's on to Newhaven FC on Saturday for a first team/reserve team double-header against our hosts.
