Still work to do though.
A rather short report of the pre-season away fixture against Crawley Down Gatwick which was played at Ardingly College last Saturday.
Having the game being played at a college ground did cause a few of us some problems, finding the pitch was one of them plus changing facilities were basic but it was at least a game of football to play in and watch.
The starting eleven was made up of players from last season, new signings and trialists so throughout the 90 minutes it was very much a case of "getting to know one another" even though the squad have been training together for the last couple of weeks.
It only took the Crows 6 minutes though to score the opening goal, Treleven tucking the ball away after good work by Carrington, 1-0 to the away side.
It became 2-0 to the Crows after 19 minutes, Attwood putting the ball in the net for his first goal for the club and then it became 3-0 in the 22nd minute, Carrington tucking the ball away after being assisted by Treleaven.
The Crows made four substitutions at half time, Tear, Sebbar, Shea and Ede coming on for Boddy, Carrington, Treleaven and Butler. Whether these substitutions upset the Crows is debatable, however, in the 46th minute Crawley Down Gatwick made it 3-1 after the Crows failed to deal with a cross in to the penalty area effectively enough.
The Crows dominated the first half and it was more of the same during the second half but without so much of the fast flowing free football seen in the first 45 minutes.
This was mainly due to the Crows making substitutions and changes in formation so for the next 20 minutes it was attack against defence with a few good chances for the Crows going by the wayside without them increasing their lead.
After 65 minutes, Walder was replaced by Boddy and in the 75th minute, Butler replaced Mici.
Two minutes later, in the 77th minute, the Crows increased their lead to 4-1, one of the home side's defenders putting the ball in to his own net whilst trying to cut out a Shea cross.
Shea himself then made it 5-1 only a minute later, a neat finish after good work down the right hand side by the Crows. A further minute on, in the 79th minute, it became 6-1, captain Carey slotting the ball home from fairly close in.
Before the restart, Treleaven replaced Attwood and in the 80th minute Sebbar goes off to be replaced by Carrington. More chances came and went but the scoreboard was not troubled anymore so the game finished 6-1 to the Crows.
