Our luck will change one day.
The Crow's FA Cup run came to a halt on Tuesday night when they lost 2-1 at home to visitors, Chessington & Hook United, the game itself was a pulsating affair from start to finish with both sides giving everything they had for the full 90 minutes, plus the 30 minutes extra-time they had to play, before a winner would emerge.
The replay followed very much along the same lines as the first game, except it was the visitors who dominated the early part of the first half, whereas on Saturday, it was the Crows who dominated possession and chances.
Chessington & Hook started very brightly and used the pace of their wingers and forward line to good effect, whilst the Crows seemed to be slightly off the pace initially and just could not get into the game or hold up the ball for any period of time.
Where the Crows failed to score early on during Saturday's game, Chessington managed to do it after just 4 minutes on Tuesday, Hearne curling in a direct free-kick from some 20 yards out which beat 'keeper Hampson high on his right-hand side.
The visitors used their early dominance to create a few dangerous moments within the Crow's penalty area and but for some stout defending as a unit by the Crow's defence, they should have led by a greater margin perhaps.
It took about 15 minutes before the Crows created any chances, Boddy heading goal wards from a Treleaven throw, which 'keeper Hewitt was grateful to save, Treleaven then had an overhead kick which went wide however, Hampson still had to be on his toes, saving well at the feet of a Chessington forward.
As the game neared the half-time interval, a Chessington defender nearly heads the ball into his own net but the ball just clears the bar for a corner with Hewitt completely beaten.
In the 43rd minute, Ridley set Carrington through with a great ball and his shot from 18 yards out beats Hewitt only to hit the inside of the 'keepers right-hand post, roll along the line and away from the goal, therefore, the interval arrived with the visitor's 1-0 up and the Crow's bemoaning their bad luck.
On reflection, the first-half could have been even better but the flow of the game was perpetuated by numerous free-kicks given for some petty fouls and for the number of times the Chessington forwards were caught off-side.
During the break the away side must have decided that their main threat came from Callum Ridley as he was rather harshly tackled within 30 seconds of the restart and had to receive lengthy treatment before he was able to carry on.
The match was very much an end to end affair and the Crows made their first substitution after 51 minutes when Ransome was replaced on the wing by Jack Funnell, this appeared to be a tactical decision rather than one based on an injury.
The Crows now had the upper hand and in the 55th minute, Ridley sent Carrington away again but his shot just went wide, then Treleaven beat his defender in the penalty-area only to be taken out by the same defender but to the incredulity of all those watching, the referee signalled no penalty straight away and play carried on with Treleaven sitting on the grass not believing what had just transpired.
However, he got his reward in the 63rd minute, scoring a wonder goal from some 25 yards out with a stunning half-volley which flew into the top corner of the net, giving Hewitt no chance to reach the ball.
With the score now at 1-1, Chessington upped their efforts again and started to become a threat to the Crows goal and chances at both ends came and went without being taken.
In the dying seconds of the 90 minutes, Carrington hit a thunderous shot on the diagonal from some 15 yards out and Hewitt, who had been booked just before because he called the referee "a knob", made an absolutely brilliant save to keep the score at 1-1 and send everyone into extra-time.
Both sides set off to win the game without going to a penalty shoot-out and each side had chances to win the match during this extra period however, whilst the Crows FA Cup luck seemed to have disappeared, Chessington scored the winner with some 5 minutes of the extra 30 to go.
A free kick was floated across to the back post, a Chessington player headed the ball back across the Crow's goal and Kyle Green had an easy tap-in from about a yard out, therefore, 2-1 to the visitors and that's how it ended.
In all honesty, the Crows didn't lose this tie on Tuesday night, they lost it on Saturday when they didn't take their chances to kill the tie there and then, however, that's what players learn through time and experience and it won't be long before a team gets a right hiding from us soon.
