CROWS LOSE THEIR LAST PRE-SEASON FIXTURE

CROWS LOSE THEIR LAST PRE-SEASON FIXTURE

Malcolm Boyes4 Aug 2015 - 08:33

Crows went down 3-2 at home to visitors, Haywards Heath Town, on Saturday, having played a third of the game with 10 men.

Still, a good work out for all.
The Crows started brightly enough, putting pressure on the Haywards Heath Town defence for the first 20 minutes or so, and this pressure ended up with Wayne Clarke hitting the post after a good move.
The home side had pace in the final third throughout and looked good in the wide areas, Matthews especially looked a threat and after 22 minutes the first goal was scored by Wayne Clarke, who was allowed to run from a deep midfield position, unchallenged by the Town defence, and fire the ball into the corner of the net from some 25 yards out.
The game then settled down somewhat, neither side really having control however, Town got back into the match when Crows centre-half, Kevin Everest, had to leave the field of play with a badly cut head, following an aerial challenge with Town centre-forward, O'Toole.
Connor Charlton came on as a replacement for Everest and unfortunately, one of his earliest touches of the ball was to fire the ball past his own goalkeeper, Hampson, as he was trying to effect a clearance of a cross into the Crows penalty area. Therefore, at half-time the score was 1-1.
Both sides made changes for the second half and it was very much an even game, however, it changed somewhat when a Crows player was sent from the field of play by the referee after slapping one of the Town players. There can be no argument that the player had to be sent off but some of the challenges that were being given to him, due to him having a sparkling game upto that point, were questionable to say the least.
The away side were 2-1 up and then around the hour mark, Carrington was brought down in the area and the referee awarded the penalty. Carrington took it himself and blasted the penalty down the middle of the goal and it was 2-2, much to the delight of the 10 men Crows.
The home side worked hard throughout but 10 against 11 is not easy and eventually, Town scored a third with 10 minutes to go and therefore, went 3-2 up and this was the way it finished. A good work out against a side with some higher level experience within its ranks, although they did have some players missing as we did, but the Town side will be a force to be reckoned with in the SCFL for the coming season and we wish them well.
