CROWS WIN SEMI TO REACH FINAL.

Malcolm Boyes11 Apr 2014 - 10:43

The Crows now meet champions East Preston in the final of the John O'Hara League Challenge Cup on Monday 5th May, after beating local rivals, Ringmer.

Ransome starts things off.
The Crows made it through to the John O'Hara League Challenge Cup Final in the end last night as they saw off local rivals, Ringmer FC, with a 3-0 win in a game they dominated from the start of the second half.

In the end the game went with league form, however, the first half was a more even affair with the Blues having a couple of chances but not taking them. The same could be said for the Crows but their chances were slightly better and they made the Ringmer goalkeeper, James, work harder to keep the attackers at bay.

Ringmer kicked the game off and had the first chance after 6 minutes when a lofted cross cum shot by McLean beat the Crows goalkeeper, Collick, but hit the outside of the post. Both teams were trying to gain superiority in the early stages but the game was going end to end, Ademiluyi had a shot saved by James, Stubbings then had an effort which was well saved by Collick.

Ransome, who was a thorn in the side of Ringmer all game, went close with an effort that just went over the bar, Ademiluyi had another effort just blocked and his rebound shot was deflected wide. Tear then took a long throw in which reached Ransome but he just failed to fully control the ball and the chance was lost.

Whilst the Crows were mainly doing the attacking, McLean again put in a dangerous cross but Collick again did well, saving low by his post. The Blues then forced their first corner after 31 minutes but Collick gathered easily.

Crows thought they had scored after 34 minutes when a long ball from Tear was helped on by Carpenter to Barton and his goal bound effort was superbly cleared away by Lee, the Ringmer defender. From the resulting corner Barton again gets up the highest but his header goes just over.

With the Crows getting on top, Ringmer make a change, Watkinson coming on for Trickett after 36 minutes and the ever dangerous McLean then puts another cross over which Stubbings heads just over the bar.

Ridley then had a great effort which was blocked by the 'keeper and from the rebound, Ridley fed Ademiluyi whose effort was deflected wide for a corner. The Crows centre halves, Boddy and Trotter then both have chances, Boddy's effort goes for a corner, which then results in Trotter's looping effort going just over the bar.

On 43 minutes Webb becomes the first person to receive a yellow card on the night as he brings down Ademiluyi with a rather late challenge. Then Lee, the Ringmer defender, suffered an injury which needed treatment and caused a delay but eventually the half time whistle blew with the score at 0-0 and the Crows just slightly the more dangerous team.

The Crows kicked the second half off and did not have to wait long before their pressure paid off as Ransome puts them 1-0 up. Ridley met a ball in from the left and his effort hits the bar but Ransome was the first to react and manages to bundle the ball over the line and in to the net.

The Crows then stepped up the pressure even more and Carpenter misses a glorious chance to increase the lead, when set up by Ransome, but he fails to get his effort on target when well placed.

It was now mostly one way traffic so the Blues make another substitution on 53 minutes, Courtnage coming on for Mikolay, however, the Crows have another good chance but Ridley's effort was just off target. Carpenter then became the second person of the night to see yellow, the first Crows player booked though.

Then, on 64 minutes, it became 2-0 to the Crows as an Ademiluyi corner was met at the near post by Ridley, who had escaped his marker, and he duly despatched the ball in to the net. This was no more than the Crows deserved and they had one foot in the final.

Further chances for the Crows came from Ademiluyi, Mahadoo, who came on as a sub for Carpenter, Barton and Trotter but a mixture of good defending and narrow misses keeps the score at 2-0.

It became 3-0 on 80 minutes when Mahadoo pick up the ball from Ademiluyi and decided to beat the defender before sending a 25 yard screamer in to the top of the Ringmer net, giving James no chance in the Ringmer goal.

Cameron then replaced Butler, after 85 minutes, and he very nearly scored with practically his first chance but his long range effort came back off the post. Then game was won from the Crows perspective and the final whistle went with the Crows winning 3-0 and earning a place in the final against East Preston on Monday, 5th May, venue and kick off time to be confirmed.

The match stats bear out how much the Crows were on top as they had 17 shots, Ringmer had 3, on target efforts was 7-2 in Crows favour, whilst Crows had 11 corners to Ringmer's 1. Fouls committed went in Ringmer's favour, 9-6, the offsides were 4 - 2 to Crows, whilst Ringmer beat us 2-1 on yellow cards
