Crowborough Athletic moved out of the relegation zone Saturday after a thoroughly deserved 3 points against a good Arundel side at the Crowborough Community Stadium.
Sam Carrington put the Crows a goal to the good just before half-time, before Gary Norgate scored on his return to Arundel from Bognor Regis from the spot to equalize, but only for keeper Ben O’Connor to turn a Charlie Ottway effort against Dave Walker to deflect the ball across the line to award Crowborough all three points, as Dave Adams’ reign as player/manager remains unbeaten.
Arundel should’ve taken the lead after 16 minutes, when Norgate played the ball across to Scott Tipper, but he placed the ball narrowly wide of the far corner from close range.
On the half hour, Carrington saw his volley gathered by O’Connor, and then a Thom Nowell free kick picked out the towering Adams, but he headed just past the post.
Crowborough then got what they deserved on 43.
Carrington got infront of the advancing O’Connor to poke the ball into the empty net after Scott Treleaven had crossed the ball in from the left.
The Crows started the second period on the front foot, as Nowell played the ball through to Tom Saunders, but his shot from a tight angle was saved at his near post by the keeper.
Then Sam Carrington had to go off injured due to a hamstring problem, and was replaced by Ed Willoughby.
On the hour, Saunders would feel he should’ve doubled the hosts’ advantage when Adams’ inswinging corner picked out the midfielder, but he glanced the ball wide of the top far corner from close range.
It was then time for Arundel to put the Crows under pressure.
Walker found Rory Biggs, who took the ball across the pitch from the left, before his strike beat the motionless Rob Gordon, but only to go wide of the post.
On 68, Dan Tear was judged to have brought down Norgate illegally by the referee, and as a result awarded Arundel a penalty. Norgate dusted himself down to send Gordon the wrong way and fire the visitors level.
Adams then took himself off for Charlie Ottway, and the youngster played a big part in setting up the Crows’ winner.
Ottway won the ball off of Paul Grantham, before turning past the defender. His effort on goal was pushed across the goal by the diving O’Connor, and rebounded off the shin of Walker, and despite his effort to clear, the ball crossed the line and the linesman awarded the goal.
Late on, Crowborough had Gordon to thank again as he produced a great double save to keep the Crows ahead. First, Josh Biggs’ strike was excellently saved by the diving keeper, and Tipper pounced on the rebound, but Gordon was equal to the effort to push the Crows out of the danger zone.
Crowborough now travel to Redhill on Saturday, before travelling to Mile Oak on Saturday 27th February in a massive match for Dave Adams’ side.
