Crowborough Athletic continued their unbeaten record under Dave Adams with an impressive draw against Champions Eastbourne United. Steve Dallaway put the visitors ahead just before half-time, but Jon Trotter headed in a deserved equalizer late on.
Eastbourne United penned the Crows in their own half first period, and came close to taking the lead after 12 minutes. Dallaway received the ball from Lee Walsh, but he drove the ball wide of the side netting
After that, Brad Manton’s ball in picked out Walsh, who controlled the ball well, but fired wide of the post.
On 39, Manton’s corner was punched away by Rob Gordon, but only as far as Dallaway, whose drive was deflected wide of the post.
Eastbourne got the breakthrough just before half-time. Lucas Mann played the ball across to Dallaway, who beat Chris Smith, and slotted the ball away from the advancing Gordon and into the far bottom corner.
Charlie Ottway came on for player/manager Adams at the break, as Crowborough looked a changed team at the start of the second half, with Sam Carrington’s effort held by ex-Crows keeper Mark Oldroyd.
Ed Willoughby replaced Tom Saunders after the hour, as the Crows looked to push on and grab an equalizer.
On 67, John Hampson’s free kick picked out the head of Willoughby, who nodded the ball into the path of Ottway, but the youngster failed to connect with the ball.
Tom Boddy then made a welcome return on 81, coming on in place on Dan Tear.
Eastbourne then came close to doubling their lead, as sub Jared Leach cut inside Boddy, but only to drive the ball straight at Gordon.
Crowborough then deservedly levelled the scores on 87.
Thom Nowell delivered an excellent free kick in from his own half, and picked out Trotter, who got infront of the advancing Oldroyd to head the ball over the advancing keeper and into the net.
Crowborough now play at East Grinstead Town on Wednesday, before hosting Arundel on Saturday, as Dave Adams’ unbeaten start continues.
