Crowborough Athletic continued from where they left off on Tuesday as a first half goal from Sam Reid helped the ten men of Crowborough secure back to back wins for the first time this season under Dave Adams.
The first half started fairly even, but it was Selsey who had the first chance, as Ross Woolf’s corner picked out Alun Morey, whose looping header went over the bar.
The Crows then came close, when Dave Adams’ looping free kick was spilled by Rob McClelland, and Reid followed up, but his shot was smothered by the keeper.
Kev Everest then had to come off through injury, replaced by Dan Tear.
On 28, Scott Treleaven’s long throw fell to Sam Carrington, whose header was pushed out by McClelland, but only to Tom Saunders, whose powerful volley was held by the standing keeper.
Moments later, Carrington and Tear linked up excellently, as Carrington crossed in to the substitute, but his bullet header went narrowly wide of the near post.
On 35, Crowborough broke the deadlock. Adams’ corner picked out the towering Jon Trotter, whose header was spilled by McClelland, and Carrington poked the ball across to Reid, who drilled his volley away from Scott Hinshelwood on the line and into the top corner from 6 yards.
On the brink of the interval, Reid found Treleaven, who drove the ball beyond the diving goalkeeper, but only to go wide of the post.
In stoppage time, Selsey came very close to equalizing, when Lewis Hamilton found Scott Dormer who drove the ball narrowly over from 25 yards.
The second half started with both sides keeping possession well, until Selsey had a great chance to equalize on 68. Trotter brought down Woolf in the area for the referee to give a penalty, as well as sending off Scott Treleaven for foul & abusive language. Rob Wimble stepped up, and his drive, set to go into the top corner, was brilliantly pushed onto the bar by the outstretched Rob Gordon.
Then Adams took himself off, replaced by left-sided Ed Willoughby.
On 71, the ten men should’ve doubled their advantage, as Saunders’ excellent ball through played in Carrington, who one on one with McClelland, drove the ball straight at the standing keeper.
From the resulting corner, Thom Nowell whipped the ball in to Trotter, who rose majestically, but only to head wide of the far post.
On 77, Greg Robinson’s free kick picked out Morey, whose header was excellently tipped over the bar by Gordon, before Charlie Ottway came on in place of Carrington upfront.
Boro then thought they should’ve had a penalty, when Ottway won the ball off sub Callum Britton, and shifted the ball across to Saunders, whose effort was blocked on the line by Billy Chatfield, before Hinshelwood bundled over Saunders, but only for the referee to say no.
Late on, Selsey applied extreme pressure on the Crows goal. Britton clipped the ball down the line to Wimble, who drilled the ball goalwards, but only for the unbeatable Gordon to push the ball over the bar.
In stoppage time, Perry Northeast found Scott Dormer, whose powerful effort was diverted wide of the post by the lunging Tear.
Crowborough now host Champions Eastbourne United Saturday, in what is a huge test for an in-form Boro side.
