A goal midway through the second half from substitute Sam Carrington lifted Crowborough Athletic off the foot of the table at Three Bridges.
“it was a hard fought game and we deserved at least a point against a very quick and strong Three Bridges side,” commented an ecstatic Scott Osbourne. “Absolutely delighted for the lads as we have at last got what we deserve.”
Crowborough started well, as Ross Campbell found Jamie Buckett, whose cross fell to Sam Reid, who volleyed just over from the edge of the area.
Three Bridges then applied pressure, when Ashley Dugdale crossed to George Hillier, and his bullet header was brilliantly pushed wide by the diving Rob Gordon.
On 31, Dugdale again crossed in to Brannon O’Neill, who from close range somehow fired over the bar at the far post.
The Crows then went on the attack, as Scott Treleaven cleverly found Buckett, but he drove straight at Kieron Poynton in the Bridges goal. Reid then found Campbell, but he sliced wide of the near post.
Bridges finished the first half stronger, as Gary Anderson crossed to Hillier, who headed over from close range. Then Ciro Donadio laid off to Joel O’Hara, whose shot from 25 yards bent narrowly wide.
Boro came close in stoppage time, when Jon Trotter’s free-kick forward was met by Reid and the ball found Campbell and his low right foot volley whistled just wide of the far post.
Crowborough started the second half well, as Buckett’s through ball found Campbell, whose low left foot drive went beyond Poynton, but only to go inches wide of the post.
The hosts then came close when Dugdale crossed to Dean Wright, whose header from close range was excellently saved by the diving Gordon.
Boro then had a spell of pressure. On 59, James Pallett’s excellent ball through played in Buckett, whose drive across was pushed away by Poynton. Then Joe Risby’s free-kick from 20 yards was saved, before the travelling Crows broke the deadlock on 67.
Treleaven launched a throw in from the right, which picked out the towering Reid, whose flick fell to Carrington, who drilled the ball away from Poynton and into the net.
Treleaven then came close himself, as his drilled effort was cautiously tipped over.
Three Bridges nearly equalised on 84, when O’Hara found James Grant, whose 25 yard strike was again excellently pushed wide by the fantastic Gordon.
Treleaven again troubled the hosts, as his rasping strike was deflected narrowly over by Alex Keaney.
After that, Reid won the ball with a great sliding tackle, and the ball ran to sub Carrington, but he drove just wide.
Boro were put under intense pressure late on, but solid defensive performances from John Hampson, Jon Trotter, Chris Ransome and Luke Leppard meant that Crowborough held on to a well deserved win.
The Crows now have a tough trip to high flying Shoreham, who are on the back of a win over Whitehawk, on Saturday.
