Crowborough Athletic will feel shattered after this defeat in the John O’Hara Cup to Division Two side Storrington, after dominating majority of the play.
Crowborough started on the back foot, as James Davis’ free-kick was flicked on by Steve Tasker to Richard Ayres, whose header was well saved by the diving Ben Head.
Storrington then broke the deadlock after 16 minutes. Liam Humphreys’ shot was kept out by Head, but fell to Craig Grantham, who drove across to Humphreys, who scuffed the ball away from the scrambling keeper and into the near corner.
This was the wake up call Crowborough needed, as then they showed some promise. Thom Nowell’s corner picked out the towering Kev Everest, put he could only head narrowly wide of the far post.
After 28 minutes, Aaron Shade played the ball inside to Scott Treleaven, whose low drive was gathered by Mark Taylor.
Then Luke Leppard’s looping cross found Everest at the far post, and his header across was brilliantly clawed away by the diving Taylor.
On the brink of the interval, Boro were somehow denied by an excellent save. Shade latched onto a ball over, and his thunderous 30 yard volley from the right wing looked to be dipping in, but Taylor brilliantly tipped over.
In a less eventful second half, Nowell’s corner picked out captain Dave Adams, but he headed wide.
After the hour, the visitors went on the attack, as Grantham cut the ball across to Ayres, but he scuffed the ball wide of the post.
Jamie Buckett then came on for the Crows in place of Shade, and the striker instantly made an impact.
The substitute latched onto a ball through to go one on one with Taylor, and he flicked the ball away from the advancing keeper, but inches wide of the far corner.
Moments later, Crowborough were level. Scott Treleaven played the ball through the legs of John Rhodie and into the path of Buckett, who turned and drove the ball beyond Taylor and into the far corner.
However, Storrington capitalized on a moment of poor defending to regain the lead nine minutes from time. Tasker’s corner picked out sub Tom Carter, who rose unchallenged to nod the ball into the net.
Crowborough now turn their focus back on the league to play a must win match at home to Mile Oak Saturday.
