The Crows were once again in cup action this weekend as they faced Oakwood in the 2nd round of the John O'Hara Cup. Following last Saturday's heavy defeat at East Preston, Dave Adams side bounced back with a comfortable victory over their lower league opponents.
Adams made a number of changes to his side, in turn fielding one of the youngest Crowborough starting XI's in the clubs history. 17 year old Nick Collick made his debut for the First Team deputising for the unavailable Ben Head. Callum Ridley, Tom Pearson and Charlie Ottway were also all handed starts giving the Crows an average age of just 21.
The Crows began strongly and Scott Taylor should have put the visitors ahead after just 2 minutes but he could not hit the target from 6 yards out. Tom Pearson and Charlie Ottway were a constant threat but poor finishing saw the Crows miss a number of chances. Oakwood hit the crossbar from an incisive counter attack, but this was to be the only attack of any danger on Collick's goal for the rest of the game. Despite Adams side dominating the game the score remained level at half time when the Crows could have easily been 5 or 6 goals up.
The second half saw much of the same with the Crows controlling the game with Callum Ridley impressing again in the middle of the park. The visitors spurned more chances however, Tom Pearson dragged wide when bearing down on goal after good build up play from Sam Carrington. It was Carrington who would finally break the deadlock in the 59th minute when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall to Scott Taylor whose volley was parried by the Oakwood keeper for Carrington to bundle home. The Crows sealed the win 10 minuted from time after Pearson beat his man to the byline and crossed for Carrington to slot home.
A solid performance from the young Crows side in a game which could have easily been won by a far greater margin if it not for wasteful finishing.
