Crowborough Athletic crashed out of the RUR Charity Cup on Tuesday after a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Division Two side Oakwood.
Crowborough controlled the opening 20 minutes, as Boro deservedly broke the deadlock on 7 minutes. Ben Head’s long goal kick was brilliantly flicked on by Aaron Shade into the path of Sam Carrington, who under sustained pressure from Ian Parker, struck the ball away from James Shaw at his near post and into the far bottom corner.
The Crows then came very close to doubling their lead moments later, as Sam Saunders’ floating corner picked out Captain Scott Whibley, whose towering header at the far post beat the standing keeper, but only to rebound off the bar.
Oakwood then equalised against the run of play. Tom Tolfrey’s corner picked out defender Scott Langridge, who header away from Head and into the far bottom corner.
Two minutes from the interval, Charlie Adsett laid the ball off to Tolfrey, who struck the ball beyond the diving Head and into the near corner to put the Oaks ahead.
However, the hosts piled on the pressure, and in stoppage time extended their lead. Tolfrey’s corner again picking out Langridge, whose powerful header went over Head and into the roof of the net.
Crowborough began the second half as they finished the first, picking the ball out of the net, as Oakwood netted their fourth within two minutes of the restart. Chris Williams latched onto a ball through, took the ball around the advancing Head, before unselfishly finding Nathan Pullen who struck the ball away from the defender on the line and into the far corner.
Boro then had a short spell of pressure, as Shade received the ball from a James Pallett throw, and turned in before striking narrowly wide of the near post.
The Crows came even closer after the hour, as Chris Ransome turned in from the left, before his well executed strike curled away from the beaten Shaw, but only for the diving Langridge to head off the line.
12 minutes from time, Oakwood then extended their lead further. Andre Elkana laid to Williams, whose fantastic strike from range beat the helpless Head to find the top corner.
Williams then doubled his tally in stoppage time, lobbing the ball over the advancing Head and into the net.
