Ringmer (1) 1 vs Crowborough Athletic (0) 0

Paul Boggis8 Aug 2012 - 10:39

Crows unlucky to come away from the Caburn with nothing after much improved performance.

Crowborough travelled to Ringmer on Tuesday night for their second league game of the new season. Despite deserving at least a point, the Crows lost their second successive game due to Aaron Watson's superb winner.

Dave Adams again had to re-jig his side due to injuries and unavailability with Dean Chamberlain and Sam Carrington both out. Paul Butler, Jack Turner, Scott Taylor and Scott Treleaven all made their first starts of the season.

The game began evenly with both sides enjoying spells of possession. Ringmer's main threat came from their tricky winger Aaron Watson, but the Crows defence dealt with much that was thrown at them. The Crow best chance of the half fell to Chris Ransome, but his half volley flew wide. On the stroke of half time a foul on Scott Taylor went unpunished and Ringmer counter attacked on the Crows with the ball eventually falling to Aaron Watson on the edge of the area who expertly volleyed into the top corner. The goal was a unfortunate for the Crows in what was an even and scrappy first half.

The second half saw the Crows take control of the game. Shooting up the famous Ringmer slope allowed the Crows to keep the ball far better and the midfield 3 of Grant, Adams and Taylor began to dictate in the centre of the park. Mike Culverhouse was a constant threat for the Crows who began to exert more pressure on the Ringmer goal but could not find the finishing touch to their good buildup play. Ringmer's Aaron Watson and Tony Reid were both threats on the counter attack, but some good saves from Ben Pryor kept the Crows in the game.

Tom Pearson's introduction gave Crowborough an injection of pace in the final 15 minutes but the best chance of an equaliser again fell to Ransome but his powerful drive from 6 yards out could only find the side netting.

Despite the disappointment of losing the game, the Crows put in a much improved performance which deserved a point at least.

Crowborough Athletic: Pryor, McEwan, Butler, Turner, Rich, Grant, Adams (Ridley), Taylor (Pearson), Ransome (c), Treleaven, Culverhouse.
Subs not used: Boddy, Everest.

MOTM: Jack Turner.
