Man of the Match:
A stoppage time goal from Bedfont substitute Paul Hamer meant that this FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie will have to be replayed Tuesday at The Orchard. A great Tom Saunders volley put the Crows a goal up on 21, Rob Gordon saved well from a Mark Nicholls penalty, but the last minute goal was enough for Bedfont to force the replay.
There was one change from the draw on Tuesday for the Crows. Tom Boddy came in for the absent Dave Soutar at centre-back.
In an even 10 minutes, Bedfont had the first opportunity. Marcus Fearon latched onto a long ball, but his attempted lob was pushed away by the advancing Rob Gordon, but the ball fell to Bedfont captain Nicholls, whose volley was well saved by Gordon.
Crowborough then sensationally broke the deadlock. Bedfont’s defence cleared the ball, but only as far as Thom Nowell, who chipped the ball in to Saunders on the edge of the area, whose left foot volley rocketed over Dell Lewis in goal, and dipped into the net.
Bedfont nearly equalised moments later, as Richard Bond crossed to Nicholls at the far post, but he headed over.
Crowborough again came close on 34, as Risby played the ball in to Saunders, but his drive was saved by the feet of Lewis.
On the brink of the interval, it was Bedfont were came close, when Lee Clark guided the ball through to Lucas Ciezarek, whose low drive was denied by a good save from the diving Gordon, who pushed the ball wide of the post.
A Ciezarek corner picked out Jim Shipperley, whose header was excellently saved by Gordon, but the ball came out for a goalmouth scramble, and the ball did somehow go in the net, but the linesman had his flag up for a foul on Gordon.
After the hour, a great run from captain Dave Adams meant he was able to thread the ball through to substitute Scott Treleaven, who burst down the left wing before cutting in on goal, but Lewis smothered the shot.
Crowborough then came even closer, as a curling Risby free-kick went narrowly wide of the far post, with half the stadium thinking it was a goal.
On 85, Nicholls’ drive was harshly judged to have hit Dan Dunford on the arm by David Jones, who pointed to the spot. Up stepped Nicholls, but his drive to Gordon’s right was brilliantly saved by the outstretched keeper.
Then Risby saw red for two yellow cards, and it again cost the Crows.
Two minutes into stoppage time, Clark’s through ball pierced the Boro defence, and found substitute Paul Hamer, who struck the ball away from the helpless Gordon and into the far top corner from 8 yards.
The action didn’t end there, as Shipperley also was given his marching orders for two yellow cards.
The replay at The Orchard is on Tuesday, before Crowborough host Wick on Saturday.
