Your website managed to have a word with newly appointed 1st Team Joint Manager, Simon Colbran, and asked him first how the move back to Crowborough Athletic FC happened.
Simon started by saying "being a manager at such a club as Horsham Town is more like a full-time job rather than a part-time job as it's supposed to be. Trying to combine the needs of the club, the travelling and your work, family life is very hard and the pressure is immense when you are the one everyone depends on. This meant that I was no longer enjoying being involved with football at that level, within that set-up, at this current time".
He also said, "the happiest years I had in football were the five I spent with Crowborough Athletic when the club went from the lower reaches of Sussex County Football League, Division 3 to winning Division 1 and promotion to the Ryman League. It's always been a friendly club with good people involved within it and a chance to "come back home" as such, was always going to be hard not to go for".
Colbran carried on, "when Graeme Mintrim left and Sean Muggeridge stepped in as caretaker manager I immediately called him to see if there could be a position I could help with, without stepping on his toes of course, should he want to be sole manager in his own right. I have known Sean for many years and we have always got on and share the same views when it comes to how football should be played and how young players are coached and progressed through to the first team. From that initial call I have met with Sean and Steve and I feel we can all work together as we all seem to be on the same wavelength and want to see the players we have and the club in general progress the right way".
"We have laid out the guidelines we will work to for the first team and we will then work at looking at the whole structure of the football side of things within the club with the aim of producing good young players for Crowborough Athletic."
We then went on to talk about tomorrow's game against Tunbridge Wells and Simon said "it's ironic really that my first game, although my input tomorrow will be limited, is against a club I played for and still know people who are involved there. I was there for four years as a player in the Kent League and therefore will be looking forward to seeing the place again. I feel the pressure is all on them as they've set themselves up to be favourites and the longer the game goes on with us still in contention, then the pressure will get even greater",
Cheers Simon for taking the time to talk to the club's website and it's good to see you back with CAFC.
