Final Score: Crowborough AFC 3–0 Erith Town

Match Report: Crowborough AFC vs Erith Town

After Saturday’s disappointment, the Crows stepped back onto the pitch with one clear goal: three points. From the first whistle it was obvious they intended to get them. Erith Town offered resistance, but the Crows delivered a commanding performance, running out 3–0 winners and securing both the win and a clean sheet.

With Gaffer Muggsy unexpectedly away, Coach Woody took charge of the team with Muggsy Junior by his side, making for an unusual sight as both dugouts were led by a Woody. Despite the shuffle, the Crows looked sharp from the off and ready to fight.

It didn’t take long for the breakthrough. In the 12th minute, after a crowded scramble in the box, Victor Aiye pounced on a rebound and calmly slotted the ball where it belonged, into the back of the net. The smaller-than-usual crowd erupted, their frustrations likely similar to the teams from the previous week, quickly forgotten.

Erith Town responded by pushing forward. They came close in the 19th and again moments later, but keeper Holmwood stood firm. His standout moment came in the 24th minute when he raced off his line to assist Turner in a one-on-one, keeping the Crows’ lead intact.

Barely a minute later, the Crows doubled their advantage. Forster was fouled close to the the edge of the box, and to everyone’s surprise it was Aiye who stepped up. What followed was nothing short of spectacular, a perfectly struck free-kick that flew straight in off the post. The ground erupted once again, not just for the scoreline but in celebration of Aiye, whose patience and determination had finally been rewarded with a brace.

The visitors tried to fight back with a string of corners and attacking spells, but defensive efforts from Smith, Lambden, Turner, Bodds, and Ajayi helped ease the pressure on Holmwood. A controversial yellow card for Aiye in first-half stoppage time slightly soured his otherwise brilliant performance, but the Crows went into the break two goals to the good.

The second half began with a scare when a tricky back-pass in the 47th minute forced Holmwood into action, but once again he was equal to it. Just two minutes later, the game was effectively sealed. Steve Smith, making his return to league action after a lengthy absence, capped a tireless display by firing home the third goal in the 49th minute. It was no more than he deserved after his effort in the first 45.

The Crows could easily have added a fourth, with Forster coming agonisingly close on several occasions but it wasn't to be this time. Substitutions followed: Aiye made way for Killick on 66 minutes, Lambden, forced off through injury, was replaced by J. Mayhew in the 71st, Pearson came off for Ajao in the 82nd, and H. Mayhew entered for Smith in the 90th.

Timekeeping confusion again caused frustration, with added time announced at 90+3, confirming a full seven minutes. Erith Town picked up a late yellow card for a high boot, but the Crows’ focus was clear, keep the clean sheet. They did just that, the whistle finally blowing at 90+7 to seal a convincing 3–0 victory.

The standout performance of the night came from Connor Pring. Relentless in midfield, he was a powerhouse of strength and determination from first to last whistle. The engine that helped drive the Crows to victory and earnt him player of the match.

Next match is 11th October, away to East Grinstead
