Can the Crows do the league double on Saturday?
The Crows make their longest away trip of the season this coming Saturday when they visit the Charles Ground to play the hosts, Deal Town. There is a caveat to that statement of course, we will have to make the journey again later in the season when we play away to Canterbury City who now play there having left the Homelands of Ashford United at the end of last season.
We have played them already of course at home, well the Gallagher Stadium anyway, where we won 2-1 from goals scored by Barton in the 89th minute and Pearson in the 91st minute which gave us the points despite trailing 1-0 for most of the game, Deal scoring the opening goal in the 7th minute.
Last season we played away to Deal Town on 1st October and turned in a stunning performance, especially in the first half, to win 6-1, the Crows being 4-0 up at half time after goals from Trotter, Attwood, Treleaven and Carrington put them in a commanding position. Deal scored from a penalty in the 57th minute before Muggeridge and Treleaven again scored a further couple of goals.
The home game in March finished 1-1, a disappointing score from the Crows point of view as they were fighting for the league title however, they had to come from behind again, Deal taking a 51st minute lead from the penalty spot and Carrington levelled the scores in the 58th minute to earn a share of the spoils.
The home side don't seem to score many goals but don't concede too many either, 11 for, 9 against, which sees them in 12th place in the league with 14 points from their 9 games. We are 5th with 20 points from our 9 games, scoring 23 goals and giving away 12.
Looking at the result from this season and the results from last season the one thing which the Crows need to avoid is to go 1-0 down and not to give away a penalty! All of that is pretty obvious really and the simple answer is to play as we did last season at their ground and if we do, then we should come away with the points.
Whilst we were winning 4-1 away at Tunbridge Wells last week, very easily I might add, Deal were drawing 0-0 at home to Corinthian FC. Personally, I hope we see a goal or two, all for the Crows of course and if that happens then the journey will have been worth it.
Address for the ground is: The Charles Ground, St. Leonard's Road, Deal, Kent CT14 9AU.
Admission prices are as follows: £7 adults, £4 concessions, £2 U18's unaccompanied, FREE U14's with a full paying adult.
Have a safe journey to all of those making the trip.
