Crowborough Athletic had returned to winning ways in the previous fixture, a 1-0 win against Lingfield to stay unbeaten in the league, flying high joint top. Muggsy would have known that a win in this fixture would see his side keep up with fellow leaders Hassocks.
The first half began fairly slowly, with our visitors Crawley Down Gatwick having the better of the opening exchanges in possession.
Our first real chance fell to Harry Forster, returning from injury following a good break against the run of play, his placed low but an easy take for the visiting goalkeeper.
The Crows picked up after that chance, and if the first 10 minutes went to Crawley Down Gatwick, the next 10 went to The Crows. Elliott Duncan flicked the ball up and sent a backwards header goalwards, but the keeper held it well. Danny Powell - a thorn in the side of our visitors throughout, turned and shot from just inside the box, but again, the keeper got in the way.
The pressure continued to ramp up as Ollie Hyland rattled the crossbar with a viscous effort from 20 yards out at the halfway point of the first half.
As Crawley Down Gatwick came back at us, Danny Powell again had a great chance to put us ahead, another backwards header under the challenge of the goalkeeper.
Crawley Down Gatwick, weren’t lying down though, and certainly had good spells, themselves hitting the crossbar 32 minutes in.
Just before halftime, Crawley Down Gatwick took the lead with a cool finish from Alex Tidy.
Half time and a goal down, a big half was needed.
Within 3 minutes The Crows had made a statement - we were here for all 3 points. Duncan had a half chance, and Hyland put his early shot over.
Duncan had another chance minutes later, this time his effort going over the bar.
Muggsy made some changes as he searched for a deserved equaliser, with Murrain and Welbourn entering the frey.
Killick was again running the left back into the ground, as he got away and put in a driven cross aimed at Powell, but the keeper reacted well and got in front of him, just.
67 minutes on the clock and Powell, drifting in from the left hand side, squared the ball for Hyland who placed his effort just wide.
Welbourn was next to try his luck, a low, long range effort was saved by the keeper before we finally - and deservedly - leveled the scoreline.
Danny Powell - who worked so hard throughout, met Rory Salters corner with a stooping header at the front post. 1-1.
Ollie Hyland got his goal next that had been coming, a floated delivery and he just wanted it more as he rose above the Crawley Down Gatwick defender to head home to put The Crows in front.
Tom Pearson finished the job in style, The Crows with a quick counter attack as Crawley Down pushed their players higher, he beat a defender, rounded the keeper before passing the ball into the empty net, the defender unable to get back in time as he tried to clear it off the line.
A superb second half, and 3 more points.
Final score: 3-1
Man of the Match: Ollie Hyland
