Windy night in Eastbourne, points return to Crowborough

The Crows took flight down to the South coast on a windy, almost wintery night in the middle of summer!

Coming off the back of an excellent home win in the season’s opener, Muggsys men will have been expecting a stern test against one of the leagues regular favourites.

The game started quite edgy for the opening 10 minutes or so, possibly with both sides getting to grips with the conditions, but the Crows sprung to life and never looked back.

Danny Powell attempted a diving header on 10 minutes, latching on to an excellent delivery from Harvey Killick on the right, where much of the play was coming through in the first half, assisted by the gusty wind.

The Crows kept cranking up the pressure on Town, Powell almost delivering for Murrain to finish.

Eastbourne Town became noticeably more physical around the half hour mark, as they struggled to contain the mighty Crows.

Ollie Welbourn set Harry Forster up, but his shot flew over the bar.

Danny Powell, a constant thorn in the side of Town, came close again, this time dragging a low shot wide on 35 minutes after a lovely ball from Lucas Murrain found him drifting into space, defenders unaware.

As half time drew closer, Murrain had a great chance to put The Crows in front, but the keeper saved well low to his right.

A number of chances, and a dominant first half performance, but nothing to show for it as we went in at half time all square.

As the second half began, The Crows couldn’t have had a worse start, and it was beginning to feel like one of those games. Minutes in from the restart, a slotted finish into the far left corner past Martin Grant saw our hosts take the lead against the run of play.

As The Crows found their feet again, Eastbourne Town were punished for their I’ll discipline and went down to 10 men, the player already booked, the ref pulled out a second yellow and he was off. 2 minutes later and they were down to 9, with a player sin binned and off the field of play for 10 minutes.

It was time to push forward, and a free kick was won on the edge of the town box. Forsters initial strike bounced straight back to him, he controlled it, and fired through the crowd, the shot finding its way low and to the keepers left. We were back on terms.

As The Crows kept pushing, Muggsy freshened things up, Powell and Carbune coming off for Duncan and H.Mayhew.

On 67 minutes, Harvey Killick came close to deservedly put us in front, but his shot was blocked.

Murrain came off for Duncan and almost made an immediate impact. Jinking inside whilst surrounded by yellow shirts, he took aim and had a decent strike narrowly go over from 20 yards. With 15 minutes left, time was running out, with London coming on for Forster.

And then it happened.

Salter, battling hard in the penalty are managed to poke the ball home to send The Crows into the lead for the first time of the evening.

A superb team performance, and 3 well deserved points on the road.
